Laura began studying yoga in May 2006 after having been diagnosed with non-hodgkin's lymphoma. Her oncologist suggested that a consistent yoga practice could help calm the mind and strengthening the immune system. Laura began her yoga practice while undergoing her cancer treatment and is convinced that her practice was key in manage the side effects of treatment while helping her cultivate a spirituality within that she had not known existed.
Laura came to Westside Yoga Studio when the doors opened in 2008 specifically to study with Nicki Doane and Eddie Modestini. Committing herself to a healthy mind, body and spirit, she made the decision to continue her development so that she could share the gift of yoga with others. She completed the 200-Hour Maya Yoga Teacher Training Program in April 2010. From her ballet background, she found that Vinyasa Yoga truely open up doors for her. Laura feels drawn towards Maya Yoga for the combination of the integrity of the foundational asanas with Vinyasa's movement. Chanting, attention to the breath, and philosophy are all parts of a typical class.
Laura is grateful to her oncologist for guiding her towards this path, grateful for all of the teachers at Westside for their support and love, and blessed to be a part of the yoga community.
